The Importance
of Self Expression
Trusting and Allowing the Flow Of Creativity Without Interference
of the Ego
By David Stanley Bell
Express Yourself
This is a lesson I need to learn again
and again. Our words may be "channeled truth"and
be full of discovery and meaning for someone that hears
our words and resonates with them. Then again, they could
have no (seemingly) visible affect on anyone.
It is not our job to judge the value of
the content, it is only our job to express, and put them
into the world where they can reap dividends, even though
we may not always see the result ourselves. This is an important
element to creative living. The more we share our creative
ideas and sow them into the vast fertile field which is
the universe, the more the words and ideas will come to
us. The next step beyond praying, "Lord make me an
instrument of you peace" is to pray "Lord, I am
your channel of divine expression. May I always do what
I can to stay out of your way." The flow of the river
depends on our choices and actions. Our worrisome
thoughts are examples of clogs in the pipe.
Clogs can be frustrating things. They make us feel disconnected
from the flow of life. Every once in a while I will pick
up a book which serves as a plunger. You see, I had some
theories that are kind of “out there” and as
courageous as I may be in expressing some ideas, I can be
a little chicken in not expressing others. I picked up "Mindful
Loving" by Dr. Henry Grayson, mailed to me by a caring
soul, and I got plunged twice in just reading the introduction.
The first was an affirmation of an idea I had after learning
to use right and left halves of the brain. I learned that
many of our thoughts are just noise that prevents us from
hearing truth. So I shut down the noise and discovered the
channeling of truth for all situations. Then I realized
how the "ego mind" or "intellect" tries
to emulate creative processes with excessive amounts of
energy and bearing down.
The higher process happens when we effortlessly allow the
flow, getting out of its way. Many musicians know this feeling
well. I then postulated that the 90% of the brain that was
not used was our channel to the "God mind, God consciousness."
It has been some years since this discovery and I was afraid
to write about this and develop the idea further. I was
afraid because the "ego" side of me was too worried
about seeming credible, and I thought “who am I to
say such things.” Kind of like the parable of taking
the master’s talent and burying it in the ground.
Then I picked up this book and there is the same idea by
a psychologist and former minister that came to the same
discovery.
Well, then again, he has credentials. Bad David! Stop saying
things like that! To read these I was both exhilarated and
ashamed of myself for having to read this idea somewhere
else before having the courage to write about it. Lesson:
Express Yourself!
The second did not involve the same shame, but the same
feeling of affirmation. Dr. Henry Grayson talked of his
journey from a dogmatic Bible-interpretation based religion,
to more open mystical thought. Then he found affirmation
of spirit within science. Then he went back to listening
to scripture that we had previously rebelled against and
heard the same words, but now he felt a new meaning consistent
with more mystic thinking. The problem was not the Bible,
it was the onerous interpretations and agendas that some
religions attached to the Bible. Truth is everywhere. Jesus
repeated asked us not to open our minds, but our hearts.
In our instincts, our heart, our gut feelings, truth flows
through the other 90 percent of our brains. I strongly recommend
"Mindful Loving."
