Doubt
By David Stanley Bell

What frame of mind
what way of being
allowed doubt to slip in?
stealth
uninvited
It sits besides my intent
bully slaps it around
How did I let you in?
From where did you come?
I thought I faced you
and released you
so many times before
Yet there you are
at the wheel
driving me to where
I don’t want to go
and yet I go
to disproportionate views
of darkness
and shadow

I grab the wheel
and steer
to another destination
But I still feel you there
LEAVE ME!
GO!
BE GONE!
I am my master
