Getting Late
By David Stanley Bell

it's getting late
the phone is silent
i never could find
a ring-tone i liked
but toccata and fugue
would sound sweet right now

you used to hate
when i feel asleep
to the sound of your voice
now i don't think
i'll be sleeping for awhile

all or nothing arrangements
seem like such violent things
exacting expectation
leaves everyone wanting

it's getting late
the night is cold
warmth
is so far away from me
as is dawn
and this silence
so violent
