Unsafe
By David Stanley Bell

I am the gentle rain
sliding
down the eyelash of the doe
stroking the petals of the rose
I am the frightful hurricane
smashing through your window
blowing through your room
your heart awakening, racing
the winds tear apart
who we are becoming
from who we were
the pangs of birth
riding through the limbs
and in the aftermath
all is new
unsafe
the status quo
the illusions of tableside chatter
the acts that crave the approval of faceless masses

Empty
longing
'til a voice spoke
In words upon my screen
In the shape of the letters
I traced the curves of your face
for I knew you
Remembrance flowing through me
like the simple joys of childhood days
Why else when reading your words
did I feel your breath upon my face?
the breeze
the storm

The long night without the light in your eyes
the hunger for the nectar of your lips
the supple tenderness of your flesh
these many days in the sun baked desert
have peaked my craving to touch your mind
shower your heart

speak to me
let me feel your words
and be renewed again
come with me
away from this parched rock and sand
to higher ground
our passion will tremble in the mountains
and raise the waves in the sea
every night a star in the sky will be born
to honor the fire down below
